OKC Zoo Offers Exciting Volunteer Opportunities
Looking for a little adventure in your life? Consider volunteering at the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden. If you are at least 18, interested in nature and want to help people discover the wild world of animals and plants, then the Zoo needs you. Recruitment for Animal Area and Horticulture volunteers will take place on Saturday, February 2 during an open house at noon in the Rosser Conservation Education Center. Individuals interested in learning more about volunteering or wanting to apply should attend. The Education Center is located at the east end of the Zoo’s parking lot.
Animal Area volunteers commit one day a week, Sunday through Saturday, to working behind the scenes with Zoo keepers. You will assist with daily animal care such as cleaning, feeding and enrichment. Training consists of an orientation and job shadowing. Becoming an Animal Area volunteer is an ideal opportunity for individuals pursuing a zoo-related career.
Or, apply to become a Horticulture volunteer and watch your passion for plants grow! Horticulture volunteers work one day a week, Monday through Friday, with the Zoo’s Horticulturists to ensure the daily upkeep of the botanical collections on zoo grounds
.
“Volunteering at the Zoo is a great way to get
involved in the community,” said Lizabeth Ogle, Volunteer Coordinator. “Zoo
volunteers gain valuable and applicable experience while working in an exciting
environment.”
All applicants must be 18 years of age or older
and will be interviewed prior to placement. Interviews will take place on
February 2 during the open house.
